Winter Blooms

I could really use some real flowers in my garden! But...I'll take some paper ones;)   Welcome Back to me!  I've been gone awhile but I'm home again...and freezing.

By now if you live in a cold part of the world you're longing for something other than snow.  This time Frilly and Funkie what to brighten your day with a "Winter Blooms" Challenge!  Use flowers in any way you want and play along for a chance to win some shopping time!
I started with the Eileen Hull Canister die and no idea where I was going.

I decided on an ocean theme.
(I made this before I left to Florida so I suppose warm weather was on the mind)

I used distress paint to ink the sand and sea horse.  I used my spritzer and distress marker chipped sapphire and the speckles stencil for his spots.  Then crackled.

I cut the movers and shapers sand dollar then inked with antique linen distress paint.  I sprinkled some distress embossing powder to make it look sanded.

I cut some spring greenery for the plants with core paper.

I grabbed a tattered pinecone flower from my handy jar of pre-made flowers and attached.

For the top of the canister die I used a mini cabinet card.  I used Wendy Vecchi embossing texture paste then tucked this All Occasions card in it.

I inked the Southern Ridge Trading Company chipboard "Relax" with distress paints, shabby shutters, peeled paint and tumbled glass.

I coated the canister die with gesso.  Then I sprayed distress stains broken china and tumbled glass.  Using the spritzer, chipped sapphire distress marker and bubbles stencil for an underwater effect.

Gotta use scrabble tiles inked with tumbled glass.

I used twine to frame everything out.  It has a nautical look.

Don't be shy and make sure to share your creative project with the Frilly and Funkie team.  Just include a flower to brighten up your blog!

  2. Oh wow Nicole! Seahorses are second only to butterflies in my world and you have made that seahorse look completely fabulous on the wonderful cannister. The yellow flower and the gorgeous blues really do 'pop' and give such a summery feel - I love this! Anne xx

  4. Everything about this is making feel warmer already because unlike your Chinook, we are getting -30C to -40C (and another 6 inches of snow last night) so warm is welcome about now. The seahorse is fabulous and your pretty yellow rose just pops along with all the other fun elements. This is a cute way to display a photo of a special trip.
    Hugs!

  17. What an absolutely clever idea to combine a beach theme with flowers! I would've never thought to do something like that, but you nailed it! I really like how you made the lower half reflect the sea and the upper half is all about the beach and beautiful blooms. Very creative work where you've employed several interesting techniques. It was definitely a treat to see your project as I'm sitting at home wrapped in a blanket and listening to the bitter wind howl outside! Thanks for the escape to paradise and thanks for sharing your talents with us for this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge!

  18. Beautiful creation!

Well Ms. Canadian Nickel Scrap'n, I saw the name of your blog while over at Frilly and Funkie, checking out the theme for the latest challenge. With that title I just had to come over and see if I could figure out where in Canada you were located. Alas, you've left nary a clue that I could find. With a name like that you should be living in my backyard in Sudbury Ontario, home of the big nickel. Although, I am wondering if it is a play on your name. It is great to meet another Canadian out here in blogland. There really are not all that many of us in comparison to the other countries.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi! I'm sure I'll be seeing you again.

    Regards,
    Lisa D.
